Placement of Doncaster’s Special Educational Needs Pupils

This is the 4th data booklet detailing the placement of Doncaster's Pupils with Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities. This includes 1. School-aged pupils and those in post-16 provision 2. All SEN (pupils with either SEND support, School Action, School Action Plus, a statement of special educational need or EHC plan) 3. Local Authority maintained, academies and independent schools (mainstream and special needs education) 4. Comparisons to national figures and statistical neighbours.

Headline Findings:

  • 36.5% of children and young people with a statement/EHC plan maintained by Doncaster Local Authority attend a mainstream school, which is below national average (40.1%)
  • 37.8% of those with a statement/EHC plan attend a special school (of any type) which is slightly below national average slightly by 1.9 percentage points.
  • 10.5% of young people with new EHC plans were attending a post 16 provision, 5.4 percentage points above national average. 
  • The majority (65%) of children and young people with a newly issued EHC plan attend a mainstream school. 
  • 10.5% of young people with new EHC plans were attending a post 16 provision, 5.4 percentage points above national average. 
  • 37.8% of those with a statement/EHC plan attend a special school (of any type) which is slightly below national average slightly by 1.9 percentage points. 
  • The vast majority of these special school placements are in LA maintained special schools (26.1%) or special academies (7.5%).
