The City Centre Strategy

City Strategy

We have created a single City Centre Strategy and Vision, integrating integrating new and existing plans, government funding programmes and service delivery needs.

The strategy looks to the future, but is also be rooted in the here and now, and it considers how our largest urban centre can support the rest of the city: how it works best for itself and for all our towns and villages.

It is informed by extensive consultation: 'The Big City Conversation' received 7,084 responses, comprising of 5,821 online surveys and Community Conversations with over 1,263 residents in 120 locations across the city. We have also had in-depth discussions with businesses, services and numerous partners and stakeholders.

The Strategy considers People & Community; Built & Natural Environment; Business & Commerce, and Activities & Animation. It's key objectives are characterised by six core ambitions:

    • A flourishing city centre that is safe and welcoming to all
    • A successful and resilient city centre economy
    • A living heart to the city
    • A thriving hub of leisure, culture. heritage and services
    • A green and inviting city centre
    • A well-connected city centre

We have created new governance arrangements to support the design and delivery of the City Centre Strategy and associated activity through a City Centre Board with a diverse membership drawn from partners and stakeholders across Doncaster. See the ‘City Centre Board’ section for more details.
